The Oakville Guide (package com.theoakvilleguide.app)
Effective date: April 17, 2026
Last updated: May 6, 2026
This policy explains what personal information The Oakville Guide (“the app”, “we”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We designed the app to collect as little personal data as reasonably possible.
Who operates the app
The Oakville Guide is operated by Andrew Costa, Sales Representative, Century 21 Signature Service, Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Contact: andrew@theoakvilleguide.com.
Information we collect
If you use the app without signing in, we do not collect any personally identifying information from you.
If you choose to create an account, we collect:
- Email address — used only to sign you in and to send account-related messages.
- Your saved favourite listings — stored so you can see them across sessions and devices.
- Your device push-notification token — stored only if you opt in to notifications, so the app can notify you when a listing you favourited changes price, status, or is sold. On iOS, this token is provided by Apple Push Notification service (APNs); on Android, by Firebase Cloud Messaging. In both cases the token is a randomized identifier that contains no personal information.
We do not collect: your name, phone number, address, date of birth, government IDs, payment information, precise GPS location, contacts, photos, microphone input, or camera input.
Information we do NOT sell or share
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. The app contains no advertising SDKs, no third-party analytics trackers (such as Google Analytics, Meta, Mixpanel, or Segment), and no cross-app tracking.
Service providers we rely on
We use the following providers strictly to make the app work. Each only receives the minimum data needed for its role:
- Supabase Inc. (database and authentication) — stores your email, saved favourites, and push token. Supabase privacy policy.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications if you opt in. Firebase privacy.
- PropTX / Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) — supplies the listing data the app displays. The app reads from PropTX; your account information is not sent to PropTX.
- Google Play Services — required to distribute the app through the Play Store on Android. Google privacy policy.
- Apple App Store and Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — required to distribute the app on iOS and to deliver push notifications to iOS devices. Apple does not receive any of your personal data through APNs beyond a randomized device token. Apple privacy policy.
- Sign in with Apple — if you choose to sign in with your Apple ID, Apple shares only your name (which you may withhold) and either your real Apple ID email or a private relay email of your choosing. We do not receive any other Apple account information.
How we use your information
- To authenticate you when you sign in.
- To keep your favourite listings in sync across sessions.
- To send push notifications you opted in to receive — for example, when the price of a listing you favourited changes.
- To diagnose and fix crashes or bugs, in aggregate and anonymized form.
How long we keep your information
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (from inside the app or via email), we delete your email, favourites, and push token from our systems within 30 days. See our Account Deletion page.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email andrew@theoakvilleguide.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line. We respond within 30 days.
Residents of the European Union and United Kingdom: the legal basis for processing your data is your consent (account creation) and our legitimate interest in operating the service. You may lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
California residents: we do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.
Canadian residents: this app complies with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Children
The Oakville Guide is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Passwords are handled by Supabase Auth and are never stored in plain text. No system is perfectly secure, but we apply reasonable industry-standard protections.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top and, when appropriate, notify users through the app or by email.
